Over the years that I’ve been dabbling in public speaking I’ve generally developed a talk, presented it once and then moved on. However, I’ve noticed other speakers who give the same (or similar) talk at different events, where the talk evolves and improves over time.

So I started thinking about developing a few talks that I could hone over time. The first two are based on the same idea: what collection of Docker images would you want to have with you on a desert island. The talk comes in two flavours:

  • Desert Island Docker: Python Edition and
  • Desert Island Docker: R Edition.

To date I’ve presented the first of these talks at two events now:

Below are the slides for the first (PyData Southampton) version of the talk. You can navigate around the slides using the arrow keys or your mouse wheel.

This is the second iteration (PyData London) of the talk.

Relative to the first talk I have taken out a number of slides that did not add much value. I ran seriously out of time in Southampton. Things were tight in London but I was closer to my allotted time.
