Advancing into Analytics is a wide-reaching a technical book: starting with the foundations of analytics of Excel, readers are introduced to data manipulation, visualization and hypothesis in both Python and R. Learning all this in one book is possible because of what Excel users already know about working with data: they’ve sorted, filtered and merged data countless times and will do the same in Python or R, but with code.
That said, a book covering three applications means a lot of downloads and getting familiar with a several new tools like RStudio and Jupyter Notebooks.
I was there myself before — I didn’t even know how to download Python, let alone run any data through it. I took one look at the R console and left. I hear the same from countless analysts looking to up their data skills.
With all that in mind, I’m offering this free workshop to get readers started with the tools and concepts introduced in the book.
By the end of the session, you’ll have everything downloaded on your PC to complete the book. You will also have derived descriptive statistics from a dataset in Excel, R and Python.
I suggest you follow along on a Windows computer for this workshop; if you’re on Mac, I am less able to troubleshoot any installation issues you may have.
By the end of this workshop, you will have a complete working environment with Excel’s Data Analysis ToolPak, R and Python on your computer to complete the exercises in the book. You’ll also be able to run descriptive statistics on a dataset using all three applications.
- Please have Excel 2010 or greater for desktop installed prior to the workshop
- It is recommended to attend this workshop on a Windows machine.
